Welcome!

Dear Colleagues:

The Puerto Rico Energy Center (PREC), the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions (LACCEI) and the Institute for Public Policy (IPP) of the Ana G. Mendez University System will celebrate, from February 6 to 8, 2013, the
5th International Symposium on Energy.

The symposium has been conceived as a contribution to sustainable socio-economic development of Puerto Rico and the region, being energy and clean technologies the key components of this development. This fifth edition of the Symposium is to promote linkage and exchange among entrepreneurs, researchers, academics, professionals, students and government officials on the latest developments in energy and clean technologies.

On February 6, as a prelude to the symposium, a forum will be held on energy policies for Puerto Rico, where the study entitled "Comparison of energy costs in three jurisdictions" will be presented. The forum will be attended by representatives of the government and the local and international private sector.

The sessions to be held on February 7 and 8 will address the following topics:

Research, development and innovation in energy
• Solar energy: photovoltaic and thermal

• Wind generation

Biofuels
Energy education
Energy sustainability
• Energy production and net energy gains

• Energy storage

It will be a pleasure for the organizers to have the presence of academics, government leaders, private sector representatives and the general public with an interest in issues of such importance for Puerto Rico and the region.

Cordially
